Howard N. BARR Sr., 82, Baltimore, died Sept. 1, 1997.

His wife, Annie (DRUST) BARR, preceded him in death, she was a native of Garrett County;

Also by two sisters and one brother.

He was retired from the Canton Railroad, he authored several books concerning the Baltimore and Ohio Railroad. He was a Lutheran by faith.

Survivors: Son, Howard N. BARR, Jr., and three grandchildren.

Friends were received and services held at the Schimunek Funeral Home, Baltimore, with the Rev. Keith Hardy officiating and interment was in Lake View Memorial Cemetery, near Reisterstown. PT

 

Oma Florence BEACHY, 91, Deland, Florida, formerly of Grantsville, died Nov. 5, 1993, at her residence.

Born on Dec. 24, 1910, in Grantsville, a daughter of the late James and Sophia (YOMMER) BOWSER.  Her husband Charles Lee “Fett” BEACHY, preceded her in death on Mar. 6, 1978.

She was a member of the Bethesda Church of the Brethren; the Grantsville Fireman’s Auxiliary; Volusia (Florida) Ladies Club and was a life member of the Lutheran Missionary Club.

Survivors: daughter, Joyce SHAULIS; sister, Ruth DIETLE; three step-grandchildren and 10 step-grandchildren.

Friends were received and services held at the Newman Funeral Home, Grantsville, with the Rev. Preston Miller officiating and interment was in Grantsville Cemetery. PT 

 

Ada A. Sharpless BEAVER, 89, Accident, died Sept. 30, 1993, at the Dennett Road Nursing Home, Oakland.

Born Feb. 11, 1904, in Accident, a daughter of the late William and Barbara (WEBER) GEOGE.  She had two husbands precede her death, Martin W. SHARPLESS and Vincent BEAVER, and also by one grandson.

She retired with more than 35 years of service from the Firestone Tire and Rubber Company, Akron, Ohio; a member of Zion Lutheran Church, Accident; and the Ladies Aide of that church.

Survivors:  daughter, Pauline M. CAINE; sisters, Lourine FRAZEE, Nora ELMO; three grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

Friends were received at the Newman Funeral Home, McHenry.   Services were held at the Zion Lutheran Church, with the Rev. Wilfred Karsten officiating.  Interment was in the church cemetery. PT

 

 

Alma I. BECKMAN, 87, Oakland, died Feb. 23, 1994, at the Cuppett-Weeks Nursing Home, Oakland.

Born Sept. 21, 1906, in Oakland, a daughter of the late Wesley and Myrtle (BUNCUTTER) WHITE. Her husband, Reverdy W. BECKMAN, preceded her in death in 1981.

She was a member of the Church of Christ.

Survivors: Her step-mother, May WHITE; daughters, Juanita BROWNING, Barbara FEATHER, Lyra DUNCAN;; sons, William W. BECKMAN, Wayne BECKMAN; sister, Mrs. Eleanor SHAFFER; 10 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren.

Betty Delores BEEMAN, 67, of Dennett Road Manor Nursing Home, Oakland, died Oct. 9, 1993, at the nursing home.

Born Dec. 28, 1925, at Ursina, PA, a daughter of the late Reese and Watie (NICHLOW) MORRISON. Her husband, Howard L. BEEMAN, preceded her in death.

Vennae Mae BEVAN, 79, Accident, died Feb. 28, 1994, at Garrett County Memorial Hospital, Oakland.

Born Nov. 11, 1914, in Pitcairn, PA, a daughter of the late Richard M. and Bertha M. (NEELY) MILLS. Her husband, Charles E. BEVAN, preceded her in death.

She was a member of the Lutheran Church, Deep Creek Lioness Club and the Dames of Malta in Pitcairn.

Survivors: daughters, Kathleen V. PETERSON, Carol J. CERVI; brother, William R. MILLS; sister, Alma B. RUGH; five grandchildren;; eight great-grandchildren.

Larry A. BLAMBLE, Sr., 35, Whitney, TX, died Aug. 8, 1996 at Lake Whitney Memorial Hospital, Whitney.

Born Jan. 22, 1961, in Oakland, a son of Mabel I. (PHILLIPS) BLAMBLE, and the late Keith C. BLAMBLE.

He was a machinist; a member of St. John’s Lutheran Church, Red House; Camp 11, Woodmen of the World.

Zara D. BOONE, 74, Hyattsville, died Nov. 1, 1993, at Washington Adventist Hospital, Takoma Park.

Born June 16, 1919, in Aurora, WV, a daughter of the late Cyrus and Gay PIFER.

She was a retired secretary for the Prince George’s Board of Education.

Survivors: Her husband, Marshall W. BOONE, brother, Joseph PIFER; sisters, Wilma KNAPP, Nina LAYMAN.

Friends were received in the Aurora United Methodist Church Memorial Building. A service was held at the Stemple Ridge United Methodist Church with the Rev. Don Lowe and the Rev. Dennis Mehaffie officiating.  Interment was in the Stemple Ridge cemetery. PT

 

John P. BOOTHE, 78, Mt. Lake Park, died Nov. 18, 1993, at Garrett County Memorial Hospital, Oakland.

Born June 17, 1815, in Spencer, WV, a son of the late Johnathan and Louise (DRAKE) BOOTHE.

He was a retired construction worker.

Survivors: His wife, Arlene (ROBINETTE) BOOTHE; sons, John G. and Bill BOOTHE; brother, Woodrow BOOTHE; sister, Opal BOOTHE; four grandchildren, two great-grandchildren.

George Ellsworth BRAY, 84, Blaine, WV, died Jan. 20, 1994, at Garrett County Memorial Hospital, Oakland.

Born Dec. 24, 1929, in Barnum, WV, a son of the late William T. and Nellie (COMP) BRAY.

He was a retired coal miner and a 60 year member of the United Mine Workers of America Local 1444.

Survivors: His wife, Ina (SIMON) BRAY; Sons, Ronald and Kenneth; Daughters, Wanda GRIMES, Jean BROZ, Chris HILBERT; Brothers, Malcomb and Garland; sister, Alice Madeline DAVIS; 33 grandchildren; and numerous great-grandchildren.

Friends were received at the David A. Burdock Funeral Home, Kitzmiller and a service held at the Kitzmiller Assembly of God church, with the Rev. James S. Mou officiating. Interment was in the I.O.O.F. Cemetery, Elk Garden, WV. PT

 

Evelyn Mae BRODE, 88, Lonaconing, died Jan. 2, 1994, at Sacred Heart Hospital, Cumberland.

Born June 9, 1905,  in Barton, a daughter of the late Leonard H. and Ella Mae (SHIMER) MOORE. Her husband, William BRODE, preceded her in death in 1978.

Mrs. Brode was a former employee of the Lonaconing Silk Mill.

Debra S. BURNS, 37, Limerick, PA, formerly of Oakland, died Jan. 22, 1994, at the Pottstown Memorial Medical Center, Pottstown, PA.

Born April 15, 1956, in Oakland, the daughter of Charles A. and Anna M. (SWEITZER) BURNS.

She was employed by Pacer Sports, Phoenixville, PA.

Besides her parents, she is survived by a sister, Dorothy A. RICKETTS.

Francis J. “Frank” Cannon, 69, Rt. 4, Oakland, died May 20, 1994, at his home.

Born May 29, 1924, in Washington, D.C., he was a son of the late Martin H. and Sarah (Georghan) Cannon.

He was a retired clerk from the U.S. Postal Service; a Navy veteran of World War II, and a member f the Proctor Kildow Post #71, American Legion.

John Ellsworth COOMBS, 53, died Jan. 6, 1994, at his home in Tustin, CA.

Born in Morgantown, WV, June 19, 1930, the son of the late Anna Florence SCHROYER (who resided in Accident) and Sterling J. Coombs. His wife, Barbara, preceded him in death.

Survivors: John Jr., Connie, Candy, Cari; Sisters, Rosalee ACKER, Claudine KEMPHER; Brother, Dale Lowdermilk, and four grandchildren. Other surviving relatives; Vincent W. Wilmer Dewey CROWE, 95, LaVale, died Dec. 31, 1993, at Sacred Heart Hospital, Cumberland.

Born Aug. 15, 1898, in Avilton, the son of the late Walter I. and Minnie ROBESON CROWE.  His daughter, Anna BURGESS; two brothers and three sisters, preceded him in death.

He retired from the LaVAle Sanitary Commission. He was a Protestant by faith and was the last charter member of the LaVale Volunteer Fire Department, where he served for over 60 years.  He also held several offices in the fire department.

Survivors: His wife, Ruth BROWN CROWE; stepsons, Ronald MILLER, William McKENZIE, Robert McKENZIE; stepdaughter, Saundra CUMMINS; sisters, Datha EVANS, Jessie EVANS, Pearl BLAZEK; several grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Friends were received and services held at the Leasure-Stein Funeral Home, Cumberland, with the Rev. Robert F. Hopkins and the LaVale Fire Department Chaplain Harold Border officiating.

Interment was in Restlawn Memorial Gardens, LaVale.  PT

Charles R. DEMPSTER, St., 76, Carnegie, PA and Oakland, MD, died Aug. 13, 1996, at Garrett County Memorial Hospital.

Born March 23, 1920, in Pittsburgh, the son of the late Archie and Gertrude (BROWN) DEMPSTER. His wife, Etta Mae (WEBB) DEMPSTER, preceded him in death, as did a daughter, Deborah DEMPSTER.

He was a retired engineer for Norfolk and Western Railroad, a member of the Carnegie Masonic Lodge, a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II.

Survivors: His companion, Janet DAVIS; Sons, Charles R. DEMPSTER, Todd GEHRING; Daughters, Linda DURATZ, Saundra ARRIGO, Jody GEHRING; Sister, Gertrude DUDA; nine grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren.

M. Eloise DENNIS, 66, Alliance, Ohio, formerly of Swanton, died Saturday, Sept. 13, 1997, at the Altman General Hospital, Canton, Ohio.

Born June 15, 1931, in Swanton, she was a daughter of late Everett and Ruth (PECK) BRAY.  She was also preceded in death by her husband, Joseph M. Dennis, in 1987.

Survivors: Daughter, Margaret A. BLUHM; Sisters, Carma WHITE, Darlene DAVIS; Brothers, Wayne, Dexter, William, Neil.

Earnest Eugene “Bud” DE WITT, 70, Smyrna, GA, died July 15, 1997, in Smyrna.

Born Aug. 26, 1926, in Connellsville, PA, he was a son of former Friendsville and Oakland residents Olive (GROVES) DE WITT. He was also preceded in death by a son,

Willard F. DE WITT.

He was a 1944 graduate of Connellsville High School and a 1951  graduate of Arizona University, Tempe.  He was a member of St. Luke’s Lutheran Church, Atlanta, GA.

Survivors: His mother, his wife, Doris (ROBERTS) DE WITT;  Sons, Douglas, Barry, Earnest E.;

Daughters, Kathy DOYLE, Kelly DE WITT; Sister, Kathleen DE WITT and 11 grandchildren.

Services were conducted at St. Luke’s Lutheran Church and interment was in Georgia Memorial Park Cemetery, Atlanta.

 

Helen E. DE WITT, 93, Oakland, died Jan. 26, 1994, at the Garrett County Memorial Hospital.

Born Jan. 20, 1901, in Thayerville, a daughter of the late Frances X. DE WITT and Mary (WILBURN) DE WITT.

She was a retired bookkeeper employed by the U. S. Army.

Survivors: Sisters, Miss Glenna DE WITT, Mrs. Wilma CALHOUN, and numerous nieces and nephews.

At Miss DE WITT’s request, her body has been donated to medical science.

A memorial service was held at the Durst Funeral Home, Oakland, with the Rev. Louise Knotts officiating. PT

 

Velma A. DE WITT, 56, Kitzmiller, died March 30, 1997, at Garrett County Memorial Hospital, Oakland.

Born Nov. 30, 1940, in White, PA, a daughter of the late Leon and Della (SANNER) WARZINSKI.

She was the former owner of the Highlander Kennels.

Survivors: Her husband, Franklin H. DEWITT; Daughter, Rebecca; Sons, Andrew and Timothy; Sister, Sara DURBIN; and one grandson.

Friends were received at the Stewart Funeral Home. A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated at St. Peter’s Catholic Church, Oakland, with the Rev Fr. Richard Spencer as celebrant. Interment was in the Deer Park cemetery.

 

Marie Catherine DOLLY, 67, Mt. Storm, WV, died Oct. 26, 1993, at Ruby Memorial Hospital, Morgantown, WV.

Born July 17, 1926, in Mt. Storm, a daughter of Alma COSNER HANLIN, a resident of Grant County Nursing Home, Petersburg, WV, and the late Herbert R. HANLIN.

She was a member of the Locust Grove Church of the Brethren, Bismarck.

Survivors;  Her mother; her husband of nearly 50 years, Denver DOLLY; son, Ronald; daughter Carolyn MORELAND, Brenda GARD; sister, Mary SMITH; brothers, Haven HANLIN, Rosten HANLIN; five grandchildren; five great-grandchildren.

Harry, Junior “June” DRUMMOND, 76, Fairmont, WV, died Oct. 7, 1996, at his home.

Born Nov. 10, 1919, in Fairmont, a son of the late Harry DRUMMOND Sr., and Zoe (MURPHY) DRUMMOND.

He was owner/operator of Drummond’s Restaurant until 1997; a former employee of WVVW radio station in Fairmont; a member of the Baptist Temple Church, Fairmont; a U.S. Army Air Force veteran of World War II; a 1937 graduate of East Fairmont High School; also attended Fairmont State College and West Virginia University; an amateur radio operator (W8REH-W8WX) from 1937 until 1976; was named a 59 year distinguished member of the Quarter Century Wireless Association, Inc.

Survivors: His wife, Frieda Marie (DULANEY) DRUMMOND; Son, David DRUMMOND; Daughters, Patricia Ann CLEVENGER, Pamela Kaye DAVIDSON, Penny Rae PROUDFOOT; six grandchildren; one great-granddaughter.

No visitation was held; graveside services were conducted at the Pickens, WV, Cemetery with the Rev. Holley Faulkner officiating. PT

 

 Terry Wade FRAZEE

A Logging accident near Valley Point, WV, claimed the life of a Friendsville man.

Terry Wade FRAZEE, 35, was killed when he was struck by a tree that he and another person were cutting, on Hudson Rd., near Valley point.

Born Sept. 13, 1961, in Oakland, a son of Ruth E. HUBERSON FRAZEE, and Eugene S. FRAZEE.

He was employed as a timber cutter and farmer.

Survivors: His mother; a son, Bailey W. FRAZEE, Brothers, Willard E.,, Ronald R., Barry.

Friends were received and services held at the Newman Funeral Home, Friendsville, conducted by the Rev. Philip Geoghan.  Interment was in the Blooming Rose cemetery. PT

 

Marsha L. FRIEND, 36, Swanton, died Sept. 29, 1993, at Garrett County Memorial Hospital, Oakland.

Born Aug. 22, 1957, in Rockville.

She was a member of the Order of Rainbow for Girls and was a member of F.O. Eagles, Cumberland and a graduate of the Tri-State Beauty Academy.

Survivors: Her husband, Clifford J. FRIEND; Son, Cody J. WALKER.

Pauline E GAITHER, 81, Oakland, formerly of Bayard, WV, died Jan. 21, 1994, at Garrett County Memorial Hospital, Oakland.

Born Feb. 20, 1912, in Wilsonia, WV, she was the daughter of the late Charles and Carla O. (WILKENS) MILLER.  Her husband, Edwin A. “Jim” GAITHER, preceded her in death in 1976.

She was a member of the Bayard United Methodist Church, the Ladies Aid; a retired cook for Bayard High School; a member of the Ladies Auxiliary of the Bayard Volunteer Fire Department.

Survivors: Daughters; Nina L. SISSON, Frances BOSLEY, Lucy PASE, and Ruth Ann COOPER; Sons, Edwin B. “Dude”, Harry, and James; Sisters, Twila CLARK, Mary Jo BURNS, Arvella SISLER; Brothers, Virgil MILLER, Edwin MILLER; 20 grandchildren, 15 great grandchildren.

Paul Michael GEORGE, 80, Swanton, died Aug. 12, 1996, at Garrett County Memorial Hospital, Oakland.

Born Aug. 9, 1916, in Swanton, the son of the late Theopolis GEORGE and Hattie (TEATS) GEORGE. His wife, Virginia (LEE) GEORGE, preceded him in death in 1992.

He was retired from Westvaco Corporation, where he worked for over 31 years.  He served for 20 years on the Republican State Central Committee, six years on the Garrett County Memorial Hospital Board of Governors.

Survivors: Sons, John W. and Thomas M. GEORGE; Daughter, Barbara Ann GEORGE; three step-grandchildren; five step-great-grandchildren.

Charles Alex GRAHAM, 62, Bowie, formerly of Crellin, died Aug. 10, 1996.

Born Nov. 27, 1933, in Freeport, WV, a son of the late Charles GRAHAM and Myrtle (MYERS) GRAHAM.

He was an assistant drafting engineer for Bell Atlantic.

Survivors: His wife, Brenda GRUBB-GRAHAM; Sons, David and Alex GRAHAM; Daughters, Cindy SAMPSON, Lisa BARRETT; Step-children, Jodie SULLIVAN, Joe GRUBB III; Sister, Gladys LOSH; three grandchildren.

Milton S. GRANET, Longboat Key, FL, formerly of Cumberland and Deep Creek Lake, died Sept. 17, 1996.

Born in New York City, he was a retired dentist, receiving his degree from the Western Reserve School of Dentistry. He was a member of B’Er Chayim Congregation, Cumberland; Longboat Key Club; the Cumberland Country Club; the Allegany-Garrett County Dental Society.

Survivors: His wife, Greta GRANET; Daughter, Harriet GRANET; Son, Michael GRANET; Sisters, Libby MILBERG, Sydell THROPE.

Services were private, with the Scarpelli Funeral Home, Cumberland, in charge of arrangements. PT

 

Leroy J. GUTHRIE, 66, Oakland, died Sept. 4, 1997, at Memorial Hospital, Cumberland.

Born Feb. 10, 1931, in Oakland, a son of Mabel I. DeWITT, Oakland and the late John GUTHRIE.

He retired in 1989, with 30 years of service, from the Garrett County Roads Dept.

Millie Mae HERRING, 95, Hagerstown, died Sept. 20, 1996 at her home.

Born Dec. 5, 1900, in Cuzzart, WV, a daughter of the late Samuel WILBERT and Aletha Maude (SMITH) LIVENGOOD.  Her husband, Webster HERRING, preceded her in death on Sept. 22, 1989.

She was a homemaker and a member of the Mountain Dale Church of the Brethren.

Survivors: Daughter, Eleanor SWAUGER; Sister, Ruby RODEHEAVER; Brothers, Ward LIVENGOOD, Ray LIVENGOOD, Fred LIVENGOOD; two grandchildren; five great-grandchildren.

Thelma E. JUNKINS, 87, Gormania, WV, died Nov. 7, 1993, at the Grant County Nursing Home, Petersburg, WV.

Born Aug. 25, 1906, in Emoryville, WV, the daughter of the late George D. and Zoe (ENDLER) JUNKINS.

She was the last surviving member of her immediate family.

Survivors: Nephew, Harold D. Junkins, one great-niece, Abby ARTHUR.

Born Jan. 22, 1967, in Oakland, a son of Hazel (KAHL) SELF, and the stepson of Earl SELF, Flintstone.

Survivors: Her mother, stepfather, brother, Truman W. KAHL. Sisters; Tudy M KAHL, Donna R. SELF; maternal grandfather, Raymond KAHL.

Richard Eugene KINZEY, 63, Friendsville, died Oct. 5, 1996, at Uniontown, PA, Hospital.

Born June 1, 1933, in Confluence, PA, a son of Helen (FRAZEE) KINZEY, and the late Sheldon R. KINZEY.

He was a Lutheran by faith; a U.S. Army veteran of the Korean Conflict; a member of the Uniontown VFW; a lifetime member of the Oakland DAV.

Maryland Grace (PROPST) LOUGHRY ) 74, a lifetime resident of White Church-Steyer area, Oakland, died Sept. 9, 1997, at the Burlington (Iowa) Medical Center.

Born Aug. 9, 1923, near Steyer, she was a daughter of the late Francis and Leona (WILSON) PROPST.

She had been living with her eldest daughter, in Biggsville, ID.

She was a member of the New Life Christian Church.

Survivors: her husband of 57 years, Lester LOUGHRY; Daughters, Glenna MACHADO; Millie HUTZEL, Vonda MORELAND; seven grandchildren and two great- grandchildren.

The body was cremated.

A memorial service was held at the Gorman fire hall Sept. 21, with the Rev. Theodore Uphold officiating.

William H. MADIGAN, 63, Deer Park, died Sept. 15, 1997, at his home.

Born July 31, 1934, in Deer Park, a son of the late Edward KING and Louise MADIGAN.

He was a U.S. Army veteran of the Korean Conflict; a member of VFW Post 10077, Deer Park; Proctor Kildow Post 71, American Legion; a life member of the Oakland Chapter of Disabled American Veterans.

Carolyn L. MAGERS, 55, Middle River, formerly of Bayard, WV, died Oct. 7, 1996, at the Franklin Square Hospital, Baltimore.

Born May 3, 1941, in Bayard, a daughter of the late Robert E. and Helen U. (POLING) DAVY. Her husband, Harold T. MAGERS, Sr., preceded her in death.

She was a member of the VFW Ladies Auxiliary, Essex.

Dr. Margaret E. MARTIN PhD., 81, Silver Spring, died March 30, at Holy Cross Hospital, Silver Spring.

Born Oct. 17, 1915, in Albright, WV, daughter of the late Elmer E. and Lillie (BLACKBURN)  MARTIN.

Dr. Martin was a graduate of Kingwood, WV, High School;; served with the United State Navy WAVES from 1943-45; received her bachelor’s degree in chemistry from West Virginia Wesleyan College Buckhannon, WV, in 1945;  a 1949 graduate of North Carolina University, Chapel Hill and received her master’s degree in biochemistry from Georgetown University in 1958.

She was a teacher, prior to Navy service, with the Preston County Public Schools; following WWII, she worked as a medical technologist at Emergency Hospital, Washington, D.C.; a medial technician at St. Elizabeth’s Hospital (Federal Security Agency) Washington, D. C.; a chemist with the Food and Drug Administration; a chemist with the National Heart Institute; a research chemist with the USDA , Agriculture Research Center, a clinical chemist, DHEW, NIMH, at St. Elizabeth’s Hospital, and a chemist, NIMH Special Mental Health Research, St. Elizabeth’s Hospital.

She was a member of St. Paul’s United Methodist Church in Kensington.

A member of the American Chemistry Society, American Institute for Technology, America Association for Advancement of Seniors, Society of Exp. Biolog, and Med. American Institute of Chemists, American Society for Microbiology, and American Theater Organ Society. She received a U. S. patent for her work on stability of chlorophyll as affected by pH, and is listed in the American Men of Science publication.

Survivors: 12 nieces and nephews, including H. Iret MARTIN, and Sharon A. ARNOLD.

Funeral service was conducted April 3, at the Durst Funeral Home, Oakland, with the Rev. David Snodgrass officiating and interment in the Maplewood Cemetery, Kingwood.

 

 

Edn I. MCROBIE, 74, Oakland, died Sept. 15, 1996, at Sacred Heart Hospital, Cumberland.

Born Nov. 30, 1921, in Mt. Zion, a daughter of the late Joseph and Almedia (STEWART) SHARPLESS. Two husbands, John NOGEL and Clarence E. MCROBIE, preceded her in death.

Born Apr. 18, 1905, in Jennings, a daughter of the late Edward and Cordelia (BROADWATER) PRITTS. Her husband, Otto O. “Sol” NEWMAN, preceded her in death on Nov. 30, 1963, and two daughters, Joyce BRICK and Shirley GLOTFELTY.

She was a homemaker and a member of the St. John’s Lutheran Church.

He was a retired high-lift operator, having worked for the Kingwood Mining Company.

He was a retired coal miner and a member of the Terra Alta Moose Lodge #1395.

She was retired from the Aberdeen Proving Ground, Aberdeen.

Born Nov. 30, 1912, in Mt. Union, PA, a son of the late Frank H. and Lyda B. (BOLLINGER) WENZEL.   

He was a retired automobile salesman, mechanic and parts manager; was a former assistant manager of Takoma Motors; a graduate of Mt. Union High School, class of 1930 and took two years of post-graduate courses.

He was an Army Air Corps veteran of World War II, stationed at Bolling A.F.B. and Okinawa where he was an airplane and engine mechanic, discharged with the rank of staff sergeant; a member of the American Legion Post 136, Greenbelt; VFW Post 127, Mt. Union; Loyal Order of Moose, Lodge 453, College Park; B.P.O. Elks, Lodge 2528, Deale.

Born Oct. 25, 1910 in Finzel, the daughter of the late Howard and Mary (MCKENZIE) LAYTON. Her husband, David J. “Dan” WILSON, preceded her in death on Nov. 27, 1977. She was the last surviving member of her immediate family.

She was a homemaker and a member of SS Peter and Paul Catholic Church, Cumberland.

Born July 4, 1936, in Jennings, the son of the late Loman Charles and Lula Belle (HOOVER) WILT.  His son, Michael L. WILT and two half-brothers, Frank HAY and Glen HAY, preceded him in death.

He was a laborer with Laborers Local 616, and served in the U.S. Army from 1956-57.

She was Presbyterian by faith, an elder in the Presbyterian church; past president of the Women’s Club of Chevy Chase, volunteer for the Over-60 Counseling and Employment Service in Bethesda,  a volunteer in the emergency room at Calvert County Memorial Hospital.

Born Feb. 18, 1906, in Springs, the daughter of the late Ed and Mable (DENNISON) MAUST. Her husband, George E. YODER, and son, Jay YODER, preceded her in death.

She was a member of the Springs Mennonite Church; a homemaker; a retired custodian at the Springs School; a member of the National Arbor Society; a member and former corresponding secretary for the Springs Historical Society; she worked with school children and conducted field study in botany and nature.

Survivors: Son, Edward D. YODER; three grandchildren; four great-grandchildren.

Friends were received and services held at the Newman Funeral Home, Grantsville, with the Rev. Steven Heatwole officiating and interment was in the Springs Cemetery.  PT
