GRACE E. ALEXANDER-MARTIN

 

 

Grace E. Alexander-Martin, 92, Oakland, died Thursday, Sept. 7,

2000, at the Cuppett-Weeks Nursing Home, Oakland.

 

 

Born Feb. 10, 1908, in Jennings, she was the daughter of the late

Archibald and E. Rebecca (Friend) Bowser. She was also preceded

in death by two husbands, George W. Alexander in 1971, and Owen

U. Martin in 1977. She was also preceded in death by one son,

Russell Alexander.

 

 

She was a member of the Oakland Church of the Nazarene, the

ladies auxiliary to Proctor Kildow Post 71 American Legion,

Oakland, and the Oakland Chapter AARP. She was a former employee

of Garrett County Memorial Hospital, the Cuppett-Weeks Nursing

Home, and Dr. Andrew Mance.

 

 

Survivors include seven daughters, Mary A. Rose, Marshallsville,

Ohio, Freda V. Stout, Salem, W.Va., Gladys Flesher, Grafton,

W.Va., Winona Alexander, Mtn. Lake Park, Norma Gallagher,

Morgantown, W.Va., Juanita Shaffer, Mtn. Lake Park, and Charlotte

Boggs, Smithsburg; three sons, Robert B. Alexander, Oakland,

Dayton F. Alexander, Aurora, W.Va., and Howard Alexander,

Smithsburg; 32 grandchildren; 48 great-grandchildren; and eight

great-great-grandchildren.

 

 

Friends were received at the Stewart Funeral Home, Oakland. A

service was conducted at the Oakland Church of the Nazarene on

Sunday, Sept. 10, with the Rev. Art Evans and the Rev. Leslie

Moats officiating. Interment was in Garrett County Memorial

Gardens, Oakland.
