Obituary

John Henry Friend, 69, died Saturday at his home in Glendale near

Swanton. He had been an invalid tow years.

Born Oct. 1, 1884 in Swanton, Mr. Friend was a son of the late

John W. and Rachel (Fry) Friend. He held membership in the

Glendale Assembly of God Church.

Surviving are his widow, Mrs. Laura V. Friend, a daughter, Mrs.

Lavian Uphole, Douglas, WV and seven sons, Delbert Friend,

Beltsville, MD; Alvin and Rubin Friend, Mt. Lake Park, MD; Paul,

Eugene, and Melvin Friend, Swanton, and Pfc. Cecil Friend, with

the U. S. Army in Korea. Another son, Cecil, died in a German

prisoner of war camp during World War II. (this is not an error,

this is just as the obit reads)

Mr. Friend also leaves three brothers, Leroy, George and Arthur

Friend, Glendale; a half-brother, Marshall Friend, Swallw Falls,

and a sister, Mrs. Nettie Kieffer, Oakland.

The body is at the residence. Rites will be conducted today at 2

p. m. in Glendale Church by Rev. Carroll Skipper, pastor.

Interment will be in the Glendale cemetery.
