Funeral services were held Monday, July  19, for Mrs. Effie

Friend, aged 71 years, of Friendsville, who died at her home on

Saturday morning, July 17.  She was the widow of W. H. H. Friend,

who preceded her in death three years ago.  She was the daughter

of Elijah and Annie E. Friend of Friendsville.

 

Surviving are one daugher, Mrs. Thelma Helen Gilleland,

Hagerstown; one sister, Mrs. Mae Black, Friendsville; two

brothers, J. Bunnell Friend, near Hoyes and H. Amster Friend, of

Pittsburgh, and by two grandchildren, Thomas U. Gilleland and

Virginia Lee Gilleland.  One daughter, Genevieve, died at the age

of eight years.

 

Private services were held at the home, after which final rites

were conducted in the Methodist church at Friendsville with the

Rev. R. L. Greynolds, former pastor, now pastor at Ridgeley, in

charge, assisted by the Rev. H. R. Wriston.

 

Pallbearers were nephews of the deceased; Lawrence, Paul, Emmitt

and Ernest Friend.  Interment was in the Friendsville cemetery.

 

Mrs. Friend had been a member of the Friendsville Methodist

church since 1885.
