EARL L. FRIEND

Earl L. Friend, 82, Oakland, died Thursday, Feb. 3, 2000, at

Garrett County Memorial Hospital, Oakland.

Born May 1, 1917, in Leadmine, W.Va., he was a son of the late

Franklin T. and Florence P. (Knotts) Friend. He was also

preceded in death by his wife, Marian E. (Ford) Friend, in 1988, and by

one son, George R. Friend.

He was a retired coal miner and farmer and was a former employee

of Southern States Oakland Cooperative. He was a member of the

Underwood United Brethren Church.

Survivors include three daughters, Patricia Graham, Linda Spink,

and Robin Schroyer, all of Oakland; one son, Jack L. Friend,

Virginia Beach, Va.; one sister, Okareta Stemple, Kingwood,

W.Va.; three brothers, Ralph Friend, Richmond, Calif., Argle

Friend, Mentor, Ohio, and Willard Friend, Parsons, W.Va.; 13

grandchildren; and 14 great-grandchildren.

Friends were received at the Stewart Funeral Home, Oakland. A

service was conducted at the Underwood United Brethren Church on

Saturday, Feb. 5, with the Rev. Charles Teets and the Rev. Donald

Matthews officiating. Interment was in Garrett County Memorial

Gardens, Oakland.
