Benjamin H. Friend, aged 69, of Deer Park, died yesterday, May

11, in Garrett County Memorial Hospital where he had been a

patient for 12 days.

 

A retired farmer, Mr. Friend was born in this county, a son of

the late G. B. M. and Annie Frantz Friend.  He also had been

employed for the past 21 years at the Grange Supply Center in Mt.

Lake Park.

 

He was a member of the Woodmen of the World Camp No. 44, at Mt.

Lake Park, and Bethel Methodist church at Mt. Lake Park.

 

Surviving are his widow, Meadie Timmerman Friend; four sons,

William Friend, Towson; George Friend, Oakland; Boyd Friend, Mt.

Lake Park; and Clifford Friend, Deer Park; five daughters, Mrs.

Beulah Wilt, Oakland; Mrs. Maxine Kanten, Lanham, Md.; Mrs. Nina

Liller, Falls Church, Va.; Mrs. Mary Louise Shaffer, Mt. Lake

Park; Mrs. Sara Thurston, Fairfax, Va.;  two brothers, Lakin

Friend, Normalville, Pa.; Paul Friend, Georgetown, Ohio; four

sisters, Mrs. Irvin Rouzer, Connellsville, Pa.; Mrs. Milton

Riley, Mrs. Hazel Moon, and Mrs. Wade Meese, all of Oakland; and

26 grandchildren.

 

Funeral services will be conducted Saturday afternoon at 2

o'clock for Bethel Methodist church in the Park with Rev. Randall

D. Prince, pastor, officiating.  Interment will be in Pleasant

Valley cemetery.

 

The body is at the Leighton Funeral home in Oakland and will be

taken to the residence this afternoon.  The body will be taken to

the church at 1 o'clock Saturday afternoon.
