Arthur Earl Friend, aged 66, of Loch Lynn Heights, died last

Thursday, March 21, at his home. He had been in ill health the

past three years.

A native of Swanton he was born January 3, 1897, a son of the

late Josiah G. and Mary Sweitzer Friend.

Mr. Friend was employed by the Baltimore and Ohio Railroad for 47

years. He was a member of Lodge 1395, Loyal Order of Moose, of

Terra Alta; Proctor Kildow, Post No. 71, American Legion,

Oakland; St. John's Lutheran Church, Red House, and the Woodmen

of the World. He was a veteran of World War I.

He was inducted August 28, 1918 and served as an infantry private

in Co. F. 72nd. Infantry. He received his honorable discharge

January 30, 1919.

Survivors include his widow, Emma Moon Friend; a daughter, Mrs.

Melvin L. Callis, Mt. Lake Park; a son, Donald E. Friend, Mt.

Lake Park; three sisters, Mrs. George Beckman, Swanton; Mrs.

Heyward Custer, Oakland; Mrs. Michael Frantz, Swanton; six

brothers, Harland B., Chester, Lemuel, and Wilmer Friend, all of

Swanton; Leslie Friend, Warren, O., and Grant Friend, Deer Park;

and four grandchildren.

The body was taken to the Leighton-Durst Funeral home in Oakland.

Funeral services were conducted Sunday afternoon at 1:30 o'clock

from St. John's Lutheran church, Red House, by Rev. Luther

Seibert, pastor. Interment was in the Garrett County Memorial

Gardens in Oakland.
