Mrs. Alice Custer Friend, aged 86, widow of Willie S. Friend,

died Sunday night, March 1, at the home of her daughter, Mrs.

Joseph Cook, Pleasant Valley.

She was a native of the late Emanuel and Virginia DeWitt Custer.

Surviving are two sons, Otho and James Friend, Mt. Lake Park; and

three daughters, Mrs. Garland Friend, Mt. Lake Park; Mrs. Cook;

and Mrs. Stanley Stahl, Chambersburg, Pa.; seventeen

grandchildren and 28 great-grandchildren.

A sister, Mrs. Margaret Casteel, Oakland; and two brothers, Roy

Custer, Baltimore; and W. Arthur Custer, Hoyes; 17 grandchildren

and 36 great grandchildren also survive.

She was born near Hoyes May 5, 1872. She was married to Willie

S. Friend, November 9, 1892. They moved to the Pleasant Valley

community in 1898.

She was a member of the Pleasant Valley Methodist church where

funeral services were conducted Wednesday afternoon at 2 o'clock,

with Rev. Joseph E. Gertsell officiating. Burial was in the

church cemetery.
