Joel Beachy was born 28 Mar 1873 in the newly built farmhouse on the National Pike, about 2 miles west of Grantsville,

 the son of **Aaron Beachy and Catherine Folk.  Joel died in this home 29 Jan 1971.

 

The new farmhouse built by Aaron Beachy replaced the old Thistle/DeHaven Tavern

 where the family had lived from 1864 until the new house was built.

 

In 1896 Joel married Sarah Etta Livingood, born 21 Feb 1877, daughter

 of Simon and Arminta (Cramer) Livingood.  She died in 1950 of cancer.

 

Children of Joel Beachy and Etta Livingood were:

 

Forrest Fay Beachy - 1897-1974 - married Grace Kamp.  Forrest owned much of the land where the Grantsville Holiday Inn now sits. 

 A son and daughter still live on parts of Forrest's land.

 

Walter Aaron Beachy - 1899-    married Goldie Montague-car dealer in Pittsburgh, PA.

 

Irvin Joel Beachy - 1900-1991 - married Jennie Cook - car dealer in Pittsburgh, PA.

 

Ruby Etta Beachy - 1902-date of death unknown - married Dewey Bittinger - lived in Akron, Ohio

 

Roy Everett Beachy - 1904-1994 - married Grace Olivia Petry - lived in Berlin, PA

Infant son who died shortly after birth in 1906

 

Vernon Clay Beachy - 1907-1990 - married Gertrude Bessie Wilburn, daughter of Blaine Wilburn and Bertha Cross of Accident - lived in Grantsville.

 

Pearl Meek Beachy - 1909-1976 - married Raymond Rudolph Rosenberger –

 Aunt Pearl and Uncle Posey operated a service station at the corner of Rt. 219 and Rt 40, 3 miles east of Grantsville.

 

Vida June Beachy - living in Florida.

Evelyn Arminta Beachy - living with brother, John, on parents' farm.

John Markle Beachy - living with sister Ev.

Infant daughter born and died September 1922.

 

**Aaron Beachy -1829-1906 -  was the son of Peter Beachy III and Barbara Hershberger. 

 Peter Beachy III raised his family on a farm in Elk Lick Township, Somerset County, PA. 

The little town near the homeplace is Niverton, an Old Order Amish Community still. 

Aaron seems to have been the last of my husband's ancestors to practice the Old Order Amish faith.
